Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000)

The FSSC 22000 certification scheme has been developed and is maintained by the Board of Stakeholders of the Foundation for Food Safety Certification, based in the Netherlands. The aim of the Foundation is to provide a certification scheme which has broad acceptance, through adding value to the relationship between the certified food organizations and those around it such as the government, customers and suppliers.

The FSSC 22000 certification scheme pulls together ISO 22000:2005 and BSI-PAS 220: 2008 as the set of certification criteria, and relies heavily on ISO/TS 22003 as the accreditation criteria – however with some additions for certification bodies.  These additions are documented in the scheme rules published by the Foundation – Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) – Certification scheme for food safety systems in compliance with ISO 22000: 2005 and BSI-PAS 220: 2008.

The FSSC 22000 certification scheme has gained full recognition through the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).  The press release regarding this recognition can be accessed through this link.
